Jesus is Lord

As a Christian, Jesus is both your Lord and your Savior. Many of us take a certain amount of comfort and pride in knowing that Jesus Christ is our Savior because we proudly proclaim that we are saved.

However, the titles Lord and Savior go together, and in the same way that you proclaim Jesus as your Savior, you must also proclaim that He is your Lord. In fact, an argument can be made that Jesus can’t be your Savior unless He is first your Lord. The word Lord means someone with authority, power, or control over others. Therefore, if Jesus is your Lord, then that means that you must do whatever He says to do because the title Lord signifies that Jesus is in charge.

One of the first things Jesus tells us to do is to “COME.”  The Bible teaches that we are sinful at birth, sinful from the time our mothers conceived us (Psalm 51:5). From the time we are birthed, Jesus starts working on us, attempting to rescue us from the penalty, guilt, and heaviness of sin. He says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28). Come is a command, and once you recognize Jesus as Lord and heed to His command and COME, He saves you.

But then Jesus does something that might seem strange. After He commands us to come, He then commands us to “GO.”  With this second command, you might feel like Jesus is telling you to leave. But let’s be clear that there is a difference between “going” and “leaving.” Jesus doesn’t tell us to leave. Instead, He tells us, “Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt 28:19). Again, Jesus isn’t commanding us to leave Him. He’s Just telling us to go and bring more people back to Him in order for them to be saved.

Every true Christian has headed to the command of Jesus to come. However, not all Christians have heeded Jesus’ command to Go. Many Christians refuse to obey this command from Jesus even though they know He is their Lord. What would make a Christian disobey the Lord? I believe the reason why many Christians disobey the Lord is because of fear and misplaced concerns. Some Christians are more concerned with what people might think about them than with what God might think about them. If I were you, I would be more concerned with what the One Who made me, saved me, and promised never to leave or forsake me thinks about me.
