Purpose Driven Gospel

Purpose Driven Gospel

Sep 27, 2022

You may be correct if you think that "Purpose Driven Gospel" is a phrase I just made up. But before you dismiss this post, let me expound on the phrase a little by asking you a question: Are you driven by Pride, Pleasure, or Purpose? Please, don't answer this question too quickly… Instead, take some time to reflect.

As I considered this question myself, I could see that I've been driven by all three at various times during this past year. Today, I'm "proud" to announce that I'm hardly influenced by pride anymore (hopefully, you caught the joke).

However, by the same token, I'm almost ashamed to admit that there were too many days when I found myself in the passenger's seat of pleasure. I ate more than I should have eaten and was guilty of spending way too much time on the couch looking at the TV. Throw a gadget or some new technology into the mix, and I can now clearly see how easy it was for me to get sidetracked and distracted for hours doing things that brought me mind-numbing pleasure.

As we examine your own life, you may realize that you have also been driven by all three at various times. Perhaps you have been influenced by pride, seeking validation and recognition from others. Or maybe pleasure took the driver's seat, and you became distracted by mindless activities that only gave you temporary satisfaction.

Over the past year, I have been looking at Biblical characters, and from these studies, God has helped me see that, in many ways, we are no different than many of the people in the Bible. We are people who are prone to sin but still people who are given the grace and the ability to do wonderful things in the name of the Lord if we will to do so. There is always the potential for the good, the bad, and the ugly to manifest in all of us, and what usually get's manifested is determined by who's in the driver's seat.

The Bible tells us pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18) and that the pursuit of pleasure is never satisfied (Proverbs 21:17-MSG). The Bible also tells us many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails (Prov 19:21-NIV).

So, again, the question I'd like to ask is, are you driven by Pride, Pleasure, or Purpose?

According to Rick Warren, author of "Purpose Driven Life," God created us with a specific purpose in mind. We were designed to fulfill a unique role in His plan. As we consider our purpose, it's essential to understand that we are all capable of sin.

However, we're also given the grace and ability to do great things in the name of the Lord. The key is to ensure that we keep God in the driver's seat. By aligning our goals and desires with God's plan for our lives, we can live a fulfilling and purpose-driven existence.

One of the purposes that Rick Warren identifies is missions. Sharing the Gospel and leading people to Christ is a crucial aspect of our purpose as Christians. That's where iGospelShare comes in. This mobile app can help us share the Purpose Driven Gospel with others, equipping us to be soul winners.
