Seek First the Kingdom of God

Seek First the Kingdom of God

Sep 27, 2022

Jesus urged us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33). It Makes you wonder why any Christian would not want to faithfully seek this kingdom of God? Especially since the scripture promises provisions to whoever successfully discovers it.

Never-the-less, in our seeking, we must be mindful that the Bible does suggest that the Kingdom of God differs from the Kingdom of Heaven. While the Kingdom of Heaven refers to a spiritual realm where the Lord has established his throne (Ps 103:19), the Kingdom of God does not really point to a place but rather points to a state of the heart.

Jesus clarifies this in Luke 17 when he teaches that “the Kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say ‘Here it is’ or ‘There it is’ because the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17: 20-21)”.

Having the Kingdom of God within you means that you possess a passionate submission to God’s Kingship and authority. This means giving God the permission to rule over your life as you recognize that He is the source of everything you possess. As a Christian, you are aware that it is possible to experience God’s Kingdom without having to wait for this physical world to pass.

The Kingdom of God is felt along with the serenity, peace, and satisfaction of knowing that you are in the love and care of an almighty God who is in complete control. Having God’s Kingdom within you comes with a constant surrendering heart. It demands an acceptance that the will of your Father will supersede your own. It requires pulling yourself away from self-centeredness to God-centeredness. This might require laying down your own plans and it could even require laying down a relationship in exchange for God’s greater purpose.

Now, in no way, I’m suggesting go join a false religion or a cult to experience the Kingdom of God. I’m just proposing to experience God’s Kingdom you must seek the presence of His grace and good will. Seeking should be more of a peaceful journey than a stressful mission because Jesus Christ has already paved the path to God’s Kingdom and leads the way. The only thing left for us to do is to start the walking with the Savior.

“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” –Matthew 6:10
