Beware of Share Fear

As a Christian, I believe that sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is one of the most important things that we can do for others. However, I also understand that many Christians struggle to share the Gospel due to fear. The two main fears that most Christians express are the fear of rejection and the fear of not knowing what to say.

Some people may argue that fear does not really exist, but I disagree. Fear is a distressing emotion brought on by the threat of danger, pain, or dread. Whether these threats are real or imagined, fear is an emotion given to us by God for our protection and to help us avoid dangerous situations.

I had a personal encounter with fear a few days ago. I was putting out the trash when a shabby-looking fox appeared about 30 feet away from me. Even though fear meant "Forget Everything And Run" to me at that moment, running didn’t seem like a wise option because of the distance. Not knowing the condition of this fox, I thought about how I would be able to defend myself if an attack were to occur. Fortunately, the fox ran off, and I realized that the fear I felt was a real fear, and it was appropriate given the potential danger.

However, while the emotion of fear is given to keep us safe, the spirit of fear can immobilize and prevent us from doing what God has called us to do. As Christians, we are saved to serve, and serving requires action. Therefore, Christians cannot afford to be either still or silent. Christians must be active, and one of the most important activities a Christian must perform is sharing the Gospel and leading someone to Christ.

God did not give us a spirit of fear. Instead, God has given us a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. He did this so that He could use us to help advance His kingdom here on earth by helping people come to know His Son, Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord. Satan uses the spirit of fear as a device to keep Christians from sharing the Gospel.

To overcome fear and share the Gospel, we need to know the difference between the spirit of fear and the emotion of fear. The emotion of fear can protect us, but the spirit of fear can prevent us from doing all that God has called us to do. We also need to know that people do not reject us when sharing the Gospel, but they may reject Jesus. Therefore, we should be ready to give an answer and commit Bible verses to memory and to our hearts.
